We are now 23 days from the tip-off of Auburn Basketball! At #23, we look back at another big game from Chris Denson. This was the SEC opener for both teams at the old Tad Pad in Oxford.

Denson was 10-25 from the field in this game, 3-9 from 3-point range and 5-10 from the free throw line. After turning the ball over on his first possession, he got a steal and layup on the Rebels 1st possession to start the scoring for him and the good guys.
His next 2 baskets came about 7 1⁄2 minutes on consecutive possessions with Denson converting a pair of layups to cut Ole Miss early 7 point lead down to 3. Each team would go on a 9-0 run before Denson’s next basket, a layup to cut Ole Miss lead to 25-23. His first 3 of the game came at the 4 minute mark to make it 28-26 Ole MIss. He would hit 2 free throws with a minute left in the half as Auburn trailed Ole Miss 31-28 at halftime. Denson had 13 points in the 1st half.
In the 2nd half, after an early Ole Miss basket, Auburn would go on a 10-0 run to take a 38-33 lead. Denson started the run with a 3-point play and then hit a jumper to give Auburn a 35-33 lead. Denson would go 1-2 from the free throw line with 11;53 left and then a jumper on the next possession gave Auburn a 41-38 lead with 11;19 left. Auburn would take a 5 point lead on Denson’s next basket, a 3-pointer which gave Auburn a 49-44 lead.
Another 1-2 effort from the line with 7:47 left put Auburn back in front 50-49. Denson’s last basket of the game was a 3-pointer with 6:01 left to give Auburn a 55-53 lead. Unfortunately for Auburn, Denson wouldn’t score in the game’s last 6 minutes. K.T. Harrell missed a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left and were unable to get another shot off as Ole Miss won the game 65-62.
