You want to know how far the Auburn basketball program has come? There are people complaining about how low the Tigers are ranked in a Preseason Top 25 Poll.
Despite losing 5 players to professional basketball leagues around the world, Auburn finds themselves at #24 in the first AP Poll released on Monday. Auburn is the 4th of 4 SEC teams in the season’s initial poll. The Tigers were also picked by the SEC Media to finish 4th in the league this season.
Auburn will play 13 games this season against opponents either in the Preseason Top 25 or against teams receiving votes.
Kentucky is the highest ranked SEC team at #2, while Florida sits at #6 and LSU sits at #22. Others receiving votes include Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi State, and Alabama.
Michigan State is ranked #1 and their ranking will be tested on opening night as they take on the 2nd ranked Wildcats. Kansas and Duke are 3rd and 4th respectively, and will play each other on opening night as these 4 teams will converge in New York City for the Champions Classic November 5th.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Louisville, Florida, Maryland, Gonzaga, North Carolina and Villanova.
The parity around the country is also notable as no conference has more than 4 teams in the Top 25. The SEC, ACC, and Big 10 each lead the way with 4 Top 25 teams. The Big 12 and Big East each have 3 teams in the Top 25. The Pac-12 and West Coast Conference have 2 Top 25 teams with the Atlantic-10, Mountain West, and American Conferences all having 1 Top 25 team.
