We are now down to 9 days until Auburn Basketball is back! Today, we go back to 2010 one final time to look back at the 3rd of Tay Waller’s incredible 3 game stretch at the end of the 2009-2010 season. Waller scored 84 points over a 3 game stretch which began with the game we’re gonna talk about on the countdown today, a 9 point home win over Arkansas. It would be the last Auburn win over the Razorbacks until freshman Bryce Brown’s 27 point game against Arkansas in Fayetteville which we covered a few weeks ago.

Tay was 10-15 from the field, 7-10 from 3-point range and 2-3 from the free throw line. Waller got Auburn off to a good start 48 seconds into the game with a 3-pointer. Waller’s 2nd 3 would come with 15:14 left in the half and he would add a 3rd 3-pointer a minute later. Waller would connect on his 4th 3-pointer with 13:05 left in the half to give Auburn a 17-13 with Waller scoring 12 of Auburn’s 17 points. A 5th 1st half 3-pointer by Waller with 5:23 to go gave Auburn a 32-24 lead. Auburn led 42-36 at halftime behind 5 3-pointers from Waller.
In the 2nd half, Waller would hit his 6th triple of the game about 4 minutes in to put Auburn up 53-49. Arkansas would take the lead midway through the 2nd half after Auburn had led for the entirety of the contest. The Razorbacks lead would last about 3 minutes before Waller’s 7th 3 of the game with 7:41 left gave the Tigers a 65-64 lead. The clubs would go back and forth before Tay made his first 2 of the game, and converted a 3-point play, to tie the game at 70 with 7:11 left. The game was tied at 79 with 3 minutes left before Waller’s jumper with 2:46 left put Auburn up for good at 81-79. Auburn’s 7-0 run was the difference at the end of the contest with Waller capping off the decisive run with a free throw and then provided the final points of the game with a layup with 11 seconds left.
