Today we start going through the 27 points game over the last 10 games! At #33 on the Tip-Off Countdown, we go all the way back to end of the 2009-2010 season. There we find a young Frankie Sullivan go for 27 in a season and era ending loss to the Gators in the 1st Round of the 2010 SEC Tournament. I mention era ending because this was Jeff Lebo’s last game as the Head Coach of Auburn.
Total Points: 27
Date: March 11, 2010
Opponent: Florida (SEC Tournament)
Final Score: Florida 78 Auburn 69
Frankie was 11-18 from the field, 3-9 from 3-point range, and 2-3 from the free throw line. Frankie had Auburn’s first 5 points and scored 12 points in the 1st half. Auburn trailed by 14 midway through the 1st half but cut the lead down to 6 twice before Florida took a 40-31 lead to the locker room.
Auburn scored the first 8 points of the 2nd half to cut the Florida lead to 1. Frankie hit a 3 and converted a 3-point play to help get the Tigers in that position. Florida then went on a 15-2 run to regain their 14 point lead. Down 13 with 8 minutes left, Sullivan scored 7 straight to cut the deficit to 6. Auburn cut the deficit to 5 but that’s as close as they could get as Florida made their free throws late to preserve a 78-69 win.
Tomorrow at #32, we’ll go back to the last meeting between Auburn and their SEC/Big 12 Challenge opponent this upcoming season, Iowa State.
