Signing a large, talented offensive line class was Auburn’s #1 goal of the 2020 cycle. Before the season even started it looked like they had accomplished that goal with six commitments on board. It appeared the Tigers were likely done at the position.
Apparently not...
Tonight, not too long after Joe Burrow dropped 40+ points on Alabama’s defense inside Bryant-Denny, the nation’s #2 JUCO OT 3* Brenden Coffey announced his commitment to the Tigers.
It is with deepest gratitude and extreme excitement that I get to say, I have committed to Auburn University. War Eagle!!!! pic.twitter.com/uCwHe3k6I0

Coffey looked very likely to join Auburn’s class in the summer but then Kilien Zierer shocked everyone by picking the Tigers. With two JUCO offensive tackles on board, it seemed unlikely that Auburn would take a 3rd. Oregon was then thought to be the obvious landing spot but that never happened. But things are constantly changing in the world of recruiting and now Coffey will get to play for his #1 choice.
Highlights
Scouting Report
Standing 6’7” 275 lbs, Coffey is a long athlete who excels as a run blocker. Coffey is a mauler who finishes with the nastiness you love to see in your big fellas up front. He’s a good enough athlete to be solid in pass protection but I suspect that will be where JB will need to work with him most when he arrives on campus. It wouldn’t stun me if Coffey got a look inside if he were to not win a spot at offensive tackle as well.
The Class
Coffey now makes it seven offensive lineman in this 2020 class. The timing on this commitment is interesting. Spots are limited and there are still some important holes to fill elsewhere so it wouldn’t stun me if there was a decommit (Javion Cohen is currently visiting Alabama) or if there is greater concern Austin Troxell won’t be able to come back full speed next season. It could be that the staff just really liked Coffey’s tape that much and recognize the need to get as many bodies in as possible up front too. We will see how things shake out in the coming weeks.
War Eagle Brenden!
