Don’t let the quietness of 4* WR JJ Evan’s recruitment fool you. Everyone wanted this kid. A stand out at Montevallo High School, Evans was put up the 2nd most receiving yards in the state of Alabama in 2018, trailing only 2019 Auburn signee Ja’Varrius Johnson. An ankle injury forced him to miss some time but he was still able to put up over 700 receiving yards and 7 scores this season.
Those big junior year numbers along with some strong performances on the camp trail this spring did not go unnoticed by other top SEC programs. Both Alabama and Georgia sent Evans official offers. LSU stayed in contact with the #5 player in the Yellowhammer state up until today. This is a kid that a lot of very good programs wanted. Auburn got him.

To my extremely amateur eyes, Evans is a 9 man (think Darius Slayton & Seth Williams this past season) all the way in Malzahn’s offense. He’s at his best when matched up in man coverage being asked to make a big play down the field. He’s a physical presence on the outside that isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty as a blocker. I’m a big fan of this kid’s upside. I don’t know if he will be on the field as a true freshman but you can bet he will be a factor in this offense in the very near future.
