Back in February, Gus Malzahn told the media that he expected the 2020 OL class to be one of his biggest yet. A week later, 3* OG Avery Jernigan committed to the Tigers setting the tone for what did turn out to be one of Auburn’s largest OL classes. Now Jernigan is officially an Auburn Tiger.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that one the first Letter of Intents Auburn received today is from Jernigan. The Georgia native has been one of the foundational pieces of Auburn’s 2020 class. He and Tate Johnson have been two of the most vocal recruiters of Auburn commits on social media in this class. He’s a kid that wants to be at Auburn and is excited to start his career. Definitely someone that will be easy to cheer for in the future.
As for what he brings to the field, I think Jernigan is woefully underrated. I know that’s what most fans think of any recruit not ranked in the top 200 or higher but you turn on Jernigan’s tape and you see a kid with a skillset that looks ready to translate quickly to the next level.
He’s strong, plays with great pad level but most importantly, this kid finishes. You won’t see him take any snaps off or pull up when a play is still live. You will get 100% from Jernigan until the whistle blows, maybe even a little after. I think a year with Ryan Russell and he will be someone ready to at least provide depth in the interior by 2021. He could play guard or center at the next level.
War Eagle Avery!
