3-Star Offensive Guard Tate Johnson Signs

Callaway continues to be very good to Auburn

3* OG Tate Johnson was someone that immediately jumped to the near the top of Auburn’s board following J.B. Grimes’s return to the Plains. The Tigers offered Johnson in late March and immediately became a factor in his recruitment. After a few visits to the Plains, he pulled the trigger committing to Auburn over Florida State and Georgia Tech. Now he’s officially a Tiger.

Johnson, like Avery Jernigan, has been one of Auburn’s most active recruiters among the 2020 class. He’s worked hard to add more talent to this class including his teammate 5* RB Tank Bigsby. To my knowledge, he never took another visit elsewhere after committing. This is a kid that is ready to bleed orange & blue. You need as many of those type of kids as you can get.

He’s also a pretty durn good football player. Johnson is a brute on the field. He thrives as a run blocker, driving defensive lineman out of the play.

In short space, he’s fantastic. Where he will need to grow is as a blocker in space. The Tigers ask their guards to pull often along with running many zone schemes that require them to reach a backer at the 2nd level. But he’s got the attitude, strength and toughness to develop into an outstanding interior offensive lineman for Auburn at the next level. You know he’s going to at least finish every block he makes.

War Eagle Tate!
