There are some kids that you just start to cheer for as the recruiting cycle unfolds. 4* LB Desmond Tisdol was an unheralded linebacker prospect earlier this spring when his recruitment took off. South Carolina and Auburn both jumped into the race with the Gamecocks looking like the early favorite. But AU quickly vaulted to the top of his list after some spring visits and it seemed like just a matter of time until he committed to the Tigers.
But then AU had a flurry of linebacker commits. On back to back days, Cam Riley and Trenton Simpson announced they would be Auburn Tigers. Then at The Opening in early July, Wesley Steiner took that 3rd and final spot. All of a sudden, Auburn didn’t have room for Tisdol.
Tennessee then made Tisdol a top priority and shot up to the top of his board. But a commitment never came and once Simpson decommitted then it looked like Tisdol could be back in play. Today, both he and Travis Williams finally got what they wanted. He will be an Auburn Tiger.

Stop me if you have heard this before about an Auburn linebacker commit under Travis Williams. Tisdol is an undersized backer with big time speed and a love for contact. Sounds like every T-WILL recruit right? It’s clear he’s got a type. It’s also clear that type makes for some durn good SEC linebackers.
Tisdol is a tremendous athlete. You can see it in his tape as a running back, weaving through traffic and running through tackles. But his future is on the defensive side of the ball where he’s a prototype modern linebacker. Not the biggest kid in the world but has the speed to play sideline to sideline, a necessary requirement in today’s world of spread offenses. This is a kid that T-WILL has wanted from the jump.
Auburn’s linebacker class is complete. With Cam Riley and Wesley Steiner already signed, the final piece was adding Tisdol. There were some tough decommits early this cycle but this still turned out to be a VERY good 2020 LB class.
Auburn is off to a great start today. First landing 4* TE J.J. Pegues and now reeling in Tisdol, the Tigers’ ESD is going exactly how they want. There are 3 more announcements upcoming involving the Tigers but very little clarity just yet on what decisions might come. If Auburn can go two for three on those this would be a heck of a day for the coaching staff.
War Eagle Desmond!
