Auburn Loses Top Ranked Commit

Well... Poop....

Uh...

So...

Well you see what happened is...

I got nothing. For over 500 days 5* WR George Pickens has been committed to Auburn. He was the Tigers’ first commit of the class and although he took plenty of other visits he always maintained his commitment to the Tigers. Until now...

This is a huge gut punch for Auburn for numerous reasons. First, Pickens is a monster. He is a day 1 impact player that has NFL 1st round potential. He’s been almost unstoppable the past two years and is arguably the best wide receiver prospect in the class.

Second, Auburn was on the verge of landing the top ranked player in the state of Alabama (per 247 Composite) for the first time since Nick Saban came to town. Sure that doesn’t REALLY matter in the grand scheme of things but following a 7-5 season, it would have been some impressive pub for the program to land two of the top three players in the state.

Thirdly, chances of Auburn signing a top 10 class are extremely low at this point. Again, that may not matter if the guys AU does sign pan out but two straight years out of the top 10 is not good when you play Alabama, Georgia and LSU every year.

Finally, it’s freaking Georgia. GEORGIA!!?? There is no way to spin this. Right now, Kirby Smart and Nick Saban get who they want from Auburn WAY more than they don’t. The gap between AU and those two programs will continue to grow as long as that keeps happening.

Simply put, this signing day has become a disaster for Auburn. It’s currently expected that Ira Henry and Kamaar Bell will now sign with Florida State. There’s no sunshine for that type of failure on such important targets. Auburn must hope now that they do in fact close on Mark Antony-Richards and Charles Moore to salvage something from today.

War Eagle anyway
