Two years ago, Auburn plucked speedy back Shaun Shivers from Hollywood, FL powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna. Now they are looking to double dip as 3* WR Elijah Canion announced this evening that he plans on being an Auburn Tiger.

Canion visited for Big Cat last weekend and was back on campus yesterday for Auburn’s camp. Kodi Burns has long coveted the tall wideout and after these last two successive visits to the Plains, was able to secure the commitment of the talented wide receiver. Canion, like Auburn commits Javion Cohen and Avery Jernigan, sits just outside of 4* territory on 247 Composite’s rankings. He sports a strong offer list featuring Florida State, Georgia, Florida, Miami, USC and plenty others though it was the Gators that proved Auburn’s top challenger.
A long, lanky wideout from south Florida, Canion is a prospect that has flown up Auburn’s board in recent weeks. While not a burner, he has more than enough speed to threaten defenses vertically and excels at finding open space when plays break down. He lines up all over the field for his high school program and does work both over the middle and deep. He will need to add a bit more muscle to that 6’3” frame but Canion is a kid with a ton of upside and looks like a good fit for Auburn’s “5” position though he could play the “9” as well.
Auburn now has 8 commits in this class with 3 being wide receivers. Chances are they aren’t done yet at that spot either. 4* WR Ze’Vian Capers was back on campus yesterday as well and announced his decommitment from Arkansas earlier today. As of today, Auburn is probably the team to beat in that race. 4* WR E.J. Williams visited for Big Cat as well and has AU in his top 3 along with Clemson and Tennessee. It’s clear adding depth to the WR corps is a clear priority for Gus Malzahn this cycle and they are well on their way to doing so early this summer.
