Game 2– #14 North Carolina vs Auburn
- Sunday: 2-0 L
You knew at some point, Auburn’s hot hitting offense would run up against some really good arms that were throwing fire, and it happened Sunday morning in Chapel Hill. Auburn struggled to string consecutive hits together and the Tar Heels evened the series thanks to two runs in the top of the 1st inning to force a winner take Omaha game tomorrow at noon. While the offense wasn’t awake for the early morning contest, the Auburn pitching staff and defense was as they held the Carolina offense to just 5 hits after that first inning and forced UNC to leave 14 runners on base, doing everything they could to give the offense time to figure out the Carolina combo of Bergner and Love. They combined to hold the Tigers to just 6 hits as Auburn left 9 runners on the base pads. Their Auburn counterparts, Bailey Horn, Ryan Watson and Elliott Anderson were on point as well except for Horn in that first inning, as he tried to work through a stomach bug that forced him to stay at the team hotel for game 1. You knew Carolina wouldn’t just roll over and let Auburn have the series, now the question is how will Auburn respond and can they get over the hump of that second Super Regional win that has so far alluded them the past 2 seasons.
- Game 3: North Carolina vs Auburn – 12:00 PM (ESPN2)
There’s really no way to project what is going to happen in this one. Everyone is on deck to help. If I had to guess, I would say Richard Fitts will toe the rubber for the Tigers and then it will be anyone who can get an out. Cody Greenhill will be involved, Tanner Burns could be, Brooks Fuller will be, Will Morrison will be. I have no idea what to expect from Carolina on the mound expect we will see O’Brian, and the others we saw Saturday, and probably Love as well too. We’ve been here before, we know what to expect. Now its just about executing and scratching a couple of runs across and making plans for next weekend.
