Auburn #8 in Week 3 FanPulse Rankings

Another week, another (mostly) steady top 10. The only significant changes at the top are Florida falling from #7 to #10 after sneaking away from Lexington with a win. The close game allowed Notre Dame and yours truly to move up a spot, and also allowed Utah to sneak in at #9 after blanking an average-for-FCS-standards Idaho State tea, 31-0.

Speaking of Auburn, the Tigers are one of the most consistently ranked teams in the country. Of the 50 team sites submitting ballots, Auburn ranked 7th, 8th, or 9th in all of them. Despite the roller coaster a lot of us have felt through three weeks, the rest of the country sees us as a for sure top 10 team led by an elite defense and good-enough-for-now offense.

The Auburn ballot has a few interesting anomalies this week. Perhaps it’s just needling, or maybe there’s more to it, but the C&M ballot had Alabama ranked fourth behind Clemson, UGA, and LSU. Of course, that means UGA gets the #2 spot, which I do not endorse. Our friends at From the Rumble Seat have it right by putting UGA at #7. C&M was also one of the few sites to rank USC, tagging them on at #25 despite the loss to BYU. A little love for an Auburn guy at head coach perhaps?

I was also a little surprised to see Michigan State and Maryland hanging on in the bottom of the rankings. Michigan State got Michigan State-ed by Herm Edwards and Co., and Maryland, despite their takedown of Syracuse last week, got stuffed by a middling Temple team.

The last segment, which I did not include last week, is the confidence poll. After a downturn from the high of the Oregon win, Auburn fans are back to be fairly optimistic this week. I’m pretty sure this graph will look like a the results of a lie detector test by the end of the year.

EDIT

As several users have noted, there was an issue with receiving the email with the link to vote this week. This apparently happened with a large portion of subscribed voters across all SBNation team sites. The overlords at corporate are aware of this and are trying to get it resolved for next week. If you missed out on the voting email (like I myself did), don’t worry, it should be sqaured away for next week. Thanks for your participation!
