December 19, 2019 - Auburn Arena
A year earlier, I stood in PNC Arena in Raleigh as I saw Auburn lose to these North Carolina State Wolfpack. Auburn looked to repay the favor as the Wolfpack became the first ACC school to visit Auburn in the Bruce Pearl era.
The unfortunate thing about this game though was that the officials made this game about themselves as they combined to call FIFTY, yes 50 fouls, on the two teams. This game also featured a bad beat as well (for folks who care about that stuff) as Auburn was favored by 7.5 points and gave up a layup at the buzzer to win by just 6.
As for the game, N.C. State led most of the game’s first 8 minutes but Auburn would go on a 12-0 run to take a 10-point lead, 26-16 midway through the first half. Jamal Johnson knockdown a pair of 3-pointers, and converted a 4-point play on one of those.
A 17-2 run from N.C. State gave the Pack a 5-point lead before Samir Doughty’s first bucket of the game, a 3-pointer stopped the run as Samir began a personal 7-0 run as Auburn regained the lead right before halftime, a lead that was 38-37 at the break.
The second half was a back and forth affair as the lead changed hands a few times and never got higher than 6 for either team.
With 5 minutes to go, N.C. State led 64-62 but Samir Doughty put the Tigers on his back to finish off the game. Doughty’s layup with 4:33 to go would tie it and an Austin Wiley dunk off a N.C. State turnover on the next possession put Auburn up for good.
Doughty was 6-6 from the free throw line in the game’s final 4 minutes while also knocking down the dagger 3 in the final 30 seconds to put this game on ice for the Tigers.

Samir scored 24 points and had 4 assists and 4 steals as well. J’Von McCormick had 14 points while Austin Wiley added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Here are the highlights!
