December 29, 2019 - Auburn Arena
Auburn entered this game looking to remain undefeated, and moments before this game started, Auburn was one of just TWO teams left in America to say that, thanks to LSU’s win over Liberty.
Lipscomb came out of the gate hot getting out to a 10-2 lead in the first couple minutes. But Auburn would quickly reel the Bisons in and J’Von McCormick’s back to back 3s would tie the game at 12 five minutes into this one.
Midway through the 1st half, Auburn led by just 1, 19-18 but would hold Lipscomb scoreless for the next 7 minutes and go on a 17-0 run in the process. The run was started and finished by 3-pointers from Jamal Johnson, who had his best game as an Auburn Tiger in this one. There’s been a lot of talk about his improvement especially on defense this offseason and it will be interesting to see what kind of role he takes on this year’s Auburn team.
Auburn led 40-25 at halftime as Johnson’s 9 points led the way. As Lipscomb did in the first 10 minutes of the 1st half, they were able to stay even in the scoring column over the first part of the 2nd half, but the Tigers would eventually wear Lipscomb down and finished with a flurry.
Coach Pearl was able to get some of the younger guys some time in the closing moments and Jaylin Williams and Stretch Akingbola did not disappoint.
Jaylin and Stretch are 2 guys that will get a lot more playing time this season and I think this could be a breakout season for Jaylin as he showed late last year that he could play in the SEC.

Danjel Purifoy scored 13 of his team high 17 points in the 2nd half while connecting on 3 2nd half 3-pointers. He also had 9 rebounds in the contest. Jamal Johnson had 4 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Isaac Okoro also scored 14 in this one. Samir Doughty had 11 points and 7 assists while Austin Wiley recorded another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Here are the highlights!
Auburn won 24 of their last 25 games played in 2019. Later today, we will embark into 2020 and look back at Auburn’s SEC opening win against the team they were supposed to play in football today, Mississippi State.
