Auburn has has a player step up in every Iron Bowl victory throughout the Gus Mazlahn era.

In 2013, we all know Chris Davis was the Iron Bowl hero with the kick six. In 2017, Ryan Davis had one of the best games of his career. Last season, Zakoby McClain and Shaun Shivers both recorded historic plays in the Iron Bowl.

On the daily Locked On Auburn podcast, Zac Blackerby was joined by Justin Ferguson of the Auburn Observer. They guys speculated on who could be the hero to step up in the Iron Bowl this weekend.

Ferguson: I think it’s going to have to be a wide receiver of some kind. Auburn’s going to have to be able to keep up with Alabama’s offense by scoring. Without necessarily diving into a ton of what Alabama has done this season in the secondary, they’ve had some issues that they’ve tightened up here recently, for some reason, the way everything has be amping up, I feel like this could be an Anthony Schwartz game. This could be a game where he makes big plays with his speed but also catching the ball over the middle. Auburn has been attacking between the numbers a lot more frequently this season and just finding a way to get it to him.

It could be Seth Williams as well. If he goes pro, this is his last shot against the hometown team. Man, how crazy would it be if Seth Williams could say he went 2-1 against Alabama if they pulled off the upset? It’d be a really remarkable thing for him. So, I think with Schwartz, his ability to be instant offense and instant big play and also, I think he has gotten a lot better and has developed this season. Auburn is using him is a variety of ways. Maybe it’s him.
