I can’t believe we’re here. Not just that we’ve reached the final week of the regular season (at least for Auburn — there are several teams that finish their COVID-stretched schedules next Saturday), but once again the onliners have Gus Malzahn coaching for his job.

What if he somehow did get fired after today? It would be a perfect circle in his eight seasons on the Plains, with his first game coming against Mike Leach and his last game coming against Mike Leach. Forget the fact that there are so many factors fighting against firing him, but that would be an interesting little trivia question down the road.

Auburn destroyed the Bulldogs of Mississippi State last year, leading so some saying the Tigers were the best team in the country, but the trip to Starkville two years ago was anything but. MSU imposed its will on Auburn with the running game on the way to a big win. We won’t be seeing any run game today from Mike Leach, and MSU has been one of the worst teams in the SEC in 2020 as they acclimate to the Air Raid.

Either way, you’ll want to watch what happens. Will Auburn go out with a bang or a whimper?
