A week ago today we heard of the firing of Gus Malzahn. And the $21M buyout. And the $10M due within a month. And the candidates. And the contract extensions at their current schools. And the coup in getting Gus Malzahn out the door.
It’s been a LONG week, almost like it’s been a LONG 2020, so it’s only appropriate.
However, we may start to get some clarity today. Auburn apparently is starting to see some candidates today for interviews.
Looks like the five guys that we’re thinking about are:
- Kevin Steele
- Steve Sarkisian
- Tony Elliott
- Brent Venables
- Billy Napier
Many think that Steele is the heavy favorite due to his ties within the program and affinity from current power brokers. Still, three of the other candidates had fantastic Saturdays with Steve Sarkisian demolishing Florida’s defense, and Elliott/Venables combining to knock Notre Dame out of the playoff with a dominating win.
I’m sure more will begin to trickle out today, now that there’s some time to breathe after the regular season/championship weekend has been finished.
