It’s going to be a quick turnaround from watching tonight’s basketball game against South Alabama and then waking up bright and early to get your housework in before the morning. (God’s time) kickoff!
After the blowout at Alabama, Auburn fans are once again in the cycle of talking about how Gus Malzahn might not be up to the job, so for the head coach, this is a must-win game to get some of the wolves off of his back.
It was a win against Texas A&M back in October of 2013 that really pushed Malzahn into the limelight of college football, and boosted Auburn back into the national picture, and here’s another opportunity to do something similar, except that Auburn will be playing spoiler. The Aggies are currently sitting on the fringe of the College Football Playoff picture, but they’ll need to finish with just the lone loss and they’ll also need a little help elsewhere. Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Clemson are all ahead of them, and A&M won’t have the benefit of the doubt over any of those teams, so they’ll need some losses to happen soon (or have Ohio State unable to play any games).
Auburn is once again dealing with a rash of injuries, particularly at running back and offensive line, as well as linebacker. Thankfully, this game is at home and that’s where the Tigers get some sort of a wild swell of talent. This feels like a game that’s sneakily bigger than the morning slot would communicate, but you’re definitely going to want to tune in.
