The month of April was a frustrating time for those poor individuals like myself who follow Auburn football recruiting. Other programs, most notably Tennessee, were piling up commitments while it felt like there was little positive buzz around the Tigers. That appears to be changing in a VERY big way starting today with 3* ATH Tar’varish Dawson’s commitment to Auburn.
Auburn beat out the likes of Miami, South Carolina, Louisville, Ole Miss and Minnesota to land Dawson’s pledge. He breaks a bit of a recruiting drought for the Tigers while also possibly signaling a run of booms in the very near future. This is an important pickup for the Tigers.
A speedy athlete, Dawson does a little of everything for Lehigh Senior. He caught 3 touchdowns, rushed for 3 more, snagged 3 interceptions and also recovered a fumble. Auburn is reportedly going to give Dawson the opportunity to play on both sides of the ball which is a major selling point for the 5’10” 175 lb athlete. However, I think his future is likely in the secondary where he has a chance to continue Auburn’s recent streak of producing NFL calibre DBs, specifically from athlete from South Florida.
This could be the first of many booms to come. After a relatively quiet spell on the trail, Auburn looks ready to make a move. Keep an eye on 4* QB Dematrius Davis, 4* OT Caleb Johnson and 3* OT Garner Langlo. All three could be close to making public pledges to the Tigers.
As for Dawson, he gives Auburn another fantastic athlete in this DB class. Both O’Brien and Dawson are high 3*s on 247 Composite that have a very good chance to both be blue chips by the end of the cycle. It’s pretty clear that Auburn is putting a premium on speed for the backend of their defense.
War Eagle Tar’varish!
