WRNL eSports Championship Series: Recruiting Time

New, 2 comments

Look, you’re going to need something to root for this fall.

Let’s jump right into it.

The fine folks at Wide Right & Natty Lite, our Iowa State brethren, are going to be hosting the inaugural WRNL eSports Championship Series this fall! Obviously, we here at College and Mag will be putting a team together, but it doesn’t stop at just staff. YOU, reader, can participate, too.

The details aren’t finalized, but consider this an open invitation. The idea is that a number of different team sites are going to each have their own team, and each team will compete in a variety of different games. Each game will have a bracket style tournament, and teams will get points based off of performance in said tournaments. We can have different people play different games, so if you feel like a specialist in say, Madden on PS4, you can just be College & Magnolia’s Madden on PS4 rep.

Here’s a list of what games are for sure going to be included:

  • Madden 21 (PS4 & Xbox One)
  • NBA 2K21 (PS4 & Xbox One)
  • MLB The Show (PS4)
  • Rocket League (Cross-play*)
  • COD: Warzone (Cross-play*)

*Cross-play meaning you could compete on any console or PC

There’s also discussion about adding the following games:

  • FIFA 20 (or possibly 21) (PS4 & Xbox One)
  • Civ VI
  • StarCraft
  • NCAA 14 (PS3 & Xbox 360)

The plan is that these tournaments would be around a week long (maybe longer depending on the amount of teams), and that only one or two tournaments would be going on at a time. The planned start date would be the week after Labor Day.

Again, this is all still in the planning phase. But first thing’s first, we need to build a team. If you have any interests in any of the events, please reach out! I will be organizing the College & Mag team, but by no means will I be able to personally compete in every event.

If you’re interested, feel free to reach out either in the comment section, Twitter DMs (@RyanSSterritt), or through email at ryanssterritt@gmail.com.
