Tigers stay hot in August

Following a bitterly cold month of July on the recruiting trail, August has been blistering for the Auburn Tigers. The Tigers started the month by landing two pledges in 3-star DE Tobechi Okoli and 4-star DT Marquis Robinson. Last week, JUCO CB Kamal Hadden jumped on board. Today, live on CBS Sports HQ, 4-star S Ahmari Harvey kept things rolling committing to Auburn over Florida State and Texas A&M.

A couple of months ago, Harvey leaving the state of Florida seemed almost impossible. A Tallahassee native, FSU was long believed to be the leader with Florida considered the top competition. But Wesley McGriff has been relentless in this recruitment and Auburn slowly started making up ground over the summer culminating today in Harvey’s commitment. This is a big commitment for the Tigers especially after losing out on 4-star Kamren Kinchens earlier this summer.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Harvey is an explosive defensive back with outstanding instincts who excels at quickly diagnosing a play and attacking the ball. At just over 5’10” 170 lbs, he’s not the biggest kid in the world but he’s strong and unafraid of contact. He’s at his best playing deep, reading the QB’s eyes and then coming downhill to make a play. He doesn’t possess elite top end speed but he’s got great change of direction and a nice vertical. I expect Harvey to see action very early in his Auburn career.

The Class

After losing Marcus Woodson this offseason I was concerned Auburn’s DB recruiting would take a hit but Crime Dawg has kept things rolling on the Plains. I believe longtime commit 3-star S Phillip O’Brien Jr is severely underrated. Pairing him with Ahmari Harvey is an outstanding safety class especially following on the heels of 2020 with Chris Thompson Jr and Ladarius Tennison.

Chances are good, Auburn isn’t done either. The Tigers appear to be trending for 5-star CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry. They remain in the hunt for 4-star CB Nyland Green and are in a heated battle with Georgia and Clemson for 3-star CB Kamari Lassiter. I’d also keep an eye on Ole Miss commit 3-star DB Kyndrich Breedlove, Tennessee commit 3-star S De’Shawn Rucker and 3-star DB Jah’von Grigsby too. Bottom line, Auburn is on pace to sign another talented DB class.

War Eagle!
