November 29, 2016 - Auburn Arena
I will be honest with you all in saying that I don’t remember too much from this particular game but the Tigers moved to 5-1 on the 2016-2017 win with a 90-83 win over South Carolina Upstate.
Mustapha Heron led the Tigers in scoring once again with 23 points and also had 6 rebounds. LaRon Smith had 15 points and 5 rebounds (all on the offensive glass), while both Point Guards, Jared Harper and Ronnie Johnson, each had 10 points.
Auburn led from start to finish building an 18 point lead in this game twice. The first time came with about 7 minutes to go in the first half at 36-18. The Spartans responded with a 13-0 run but a pair of dunks from LaRon Smith helped the Tigers get to halftime with a 42-32 lead.
Auburn would go up by 18 again early in the 2nd half, 55-37, on a dunk from Danjel Purifoy with 16 minutes to go. The Tigers would maintain a 10-16 point lead throughout the majority of the 2nd half before a late Spartans run would get them within 5 on two occasions in the final 90 seconds. Four free throws from Heron would close the game out for the Tigers.
Here are the highlights!
Tomorrow at #94, we’ll look back at a game against an in-state foe that I personally hope will get back on Auburn’s schedule really soon.
War Eagle!
