LOCKED ON AUBURN: Sharife Cooper is a King

NCAA Basketball: Auburn at Georgia Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

On today’s Locked On Auburn, Zac Blackerby and Michael Pappas discuss the news happening around Auburn football, players leaving, and the latest position coaching hire. They also recap Auburn Basketball’s huge win over Georgia.

When discussing news about T.D. Moultry’s position change to middle linebacker, Blackerby talked about what he recalled from the day he signed with Auburn.

Blackerby: I do not know necessarily what his natural position is but thinking back to when Gus Malzahn was giving his signing day press conference and Auburn fans were super jazzed when T.D. Moultry signed, he was kind of seen as this BUCK defensive end. Everybody got the handout at the press conference with the bios and the breakdown of each player and what of the first things that a lot of people noticed was, ‘Wait, T.D. Moultry has been listed as a defensive end or a BUCK in all of these different recruiting places but Gus has him listed as a linebacker.’

So Gus goes in the order of the guys in the packet and he gets to T.D. Moultry and says that it was very important to him that we had him listed as a linebacker, that Auburn recruited him as a linebacker. Now, we never really saw that. When he played, he played close to the line of scrimmage, but yeah, there were reports, I think Bryan Matthews was the first to report this with Auburnsports.com, he talked about him weighing in around 250 last season. His goal is to weigh about 230 this season, which I think is the ideal size for a middle linebacker, weighing down to 230 and getting reps as a middle linebacker. That was kind of his thing. If you want me to stay and come back, I want to play linebacker. It sounds like they were okay with it.
