Up until earlier this week, Auburn did not have a single offensive lineman committed. Now in the span of 4 days they have 2 committed, both from the same high school right up the street. Tonight, 3-star OT Eston Harris joined his high school teammates 3-star OL Drew Bobo and 3-star LB Powell Gordon in committing to the Tigers.
Over the summer I named Harris as Auburn’s most important target in the 2022 class. The Tigers have struggled to sign prep offensive lineman over the years specifically offensive tackles. They could not afford to miss on a kid right up the road that checks every box they’ve been missing on in previous recruiting classes. They didn’t.
I have always been a big fan of Harris’s game. The 6’6” 290 pounder is an excellent athlete who plays with an edge and is versatile enough to play guard or tackle at the next level. I think his future is on the outside where his quick feet, long reach and athleticism will give him a chance to develop into a top tier SEC offensive tackle. I can’t understate how big a win this is for the staff. This the exact type of prospect Auburn just flat out could not sign under Gus Malzahn.
Auburn is still ranked last in the SEC but that’s due to still having the fewest number of commits. The Tigers though are expected to go on a roll over the next couple of months as the staff has really turned the heat up on a number of top targets. I still like where Auburn stands 4-star WR Darrius Clemons, 4-star OL/DL Tae Woody (FSU Commit), 4-star LB Robert Woodyard (Bama Commit) and 3-star OL Anez Cooper. There’s also a number of other big time battles the Tigers are deep in hopes of finishing strong in December. Be patient because chances are very good that patience will be rewarded in the not too distant future.
