Things have heated up quickly for Bryan Harsin on the recruiting trail. For the third straight day the Tigers have landed a commitment. On Saturday, former Northwestern defensive end Eku Leota announced his intentions to transfer to the Plains. Yesterday evening, 3-star OT Colby Smith committed to the Tigers. Now this afternoon, Harsin has his first 2022 pledge landing 3-star QB Holden Geriner.

Geriner’s rating isn’t all that flashy but he sports an impressive offer list featuring LSU, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame. After missing on Gunner Stockton, Auburn’s staff immediately made Geriner a top priority and it paid off.
Geriner lead Benedictine Military School to the 4A Georgia semi-finals last season thanks to a highly productive junior campaign. The Savannah native threw for over 2,700 yards in 2020 while completing 68% of his passes, tossing 25 touchdowns and only throwing 5 picks. He’s got a big time arm with impressive accuracy. Geriner can get the ball down field but really shines in the intermediate game where he consistently fits the ball through tight windows. While not a very mobile quarterback, Geriner is a physical runner who can go pickup 3 yards when his offense really needs it. He displays outstanding pocket awareness, allowing him to avoid pressure and make plays down the field. He’ll need a better offensive line than the one AU has fielded in recent seasons to be successful but he’s definitely got the tools to be an SEC quarterback.
Harsin has his first commit of the 2022 class and it’s an important one. Getting your quarterback on board is important as it allows him to help recruit the rest of the offensive class. Geriner joins 3-star cornerback commits Brian Dilworth and Jarell Stinson in Auburn’s 2022 class.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Tigers attempt to sign a 2nd QB this cycle. They are hard after 4-star Ty Simpson who is expected to have a decision soon. Auburn is also heavily involved with one of the nation’s best dual threat QBs in 4-star Jacurri Brown. There’s also AU legacy 4-star Tanner Bailey who might jump on board if this new staff decides to offer.
Also don’t be surprised if some more 2022 commits pop in the near future too specifically along the offensive line. Auburn is pushing hard for 4-star OT Addison Nichols, 4-star OT Elijah Pritchett, 4-star Dayne Shor and 3-star Eston Harris. Let’s see if the Tigers can start generating some momentum for next year’s class.
War Eagle Holden!
