Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.
#81 — Darius Slayton, WR
Game - Auburn vs. Purdue (Music City Bowl), December 28, 2018
The 2018 season wasn’t really filled with a lot of fun, but it sure ended with a bang. Auburn took out an entire season’s worth of frustrations on Purdue. Darius Slayton used it as a launching pad for his NFL career. He only had 3 receptions, but they covered 160 yards. Plus they couldn’t have gone for more, because all 3 resulted in touchdowns, including his last catch as a Tiger.
56 points in one half was a lot of fun. Here’s hoping 81’s next owner has some of that up his sleeve too.
