Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.
#19 — Nick Ruffin, DB
Game — Auburn vs Louisiana-Monroe, November 18, 2017
Auburn slept-walk through this game a bit. Who could blame them? This was the game between a 40-17 win over previously #1 ranked Georgia and a date with soon-to-be CFP #1 Alabama. It took until less than 2 minutes to go in the first half for Auburn to go ahead 14-7. In the second half, the Kam Martin started gashing a tired Warhawk defense, and Auburn’s defense started creating turnovers. First it was a Javaris Davis interception. Then a Nick Ruffin fumble recovery. Then Nick Ruffin decided to finish things himself.
Both teams would notch one more score each to make a 42-14 final.
#19 is currently held by freshman walk-on quarterback Cade Granzow and transfer super-senior Bydarrius Knighten. I’m gonna guess that if this one is broken in 2021, it’s similar to what Mr. Ruffin provided.
