Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.
#6 — Christian Tutt, DB
Game — Auburn vs. LSU, October 31, 2020
When you drop 7 touchdowns on a conference foe, it’s a fun one to come back to. For better or worse, there were plenty of guys whose last touchdown came in this game. Thankfully this one is at least a defensive score.
What we’re gonna focus on here:
- Great job by Derick Hall to get to the quarterback
- An excellent scoop-and-score by Tutt where he fought off an LSU player
What we’re not gonna focus on:
- the quarterback that may have held the ball a little too long.
#6 now belongs to Ja’varrius Johnson, who appears to be the nailed-on starter as a slot receiver. Hopefully this one becomes an offensive score very soon.
#5 — Anthony Schwartz
Game — Auburn @ Arkansas, October 19, 2019
So it’s pretty obvious this one is going to be a repeat player, since Schwartz scored the final touchdown in the game referenced above, but let’s go back to when he was wearing #5.
Auburn absolutely bulldozed Arkansas in the second half of this game, turning a 17-3 sleepy first half into a romp. This was a beautiful throw by Bo as he stands in against a free blitzer, and Schwartz did a good job to get separation from his defender and make it look like a 7-on-7 type play.
Right now, #5 is owned by WVU transfer cornerback Dreshun Miller, so barring a pick-6, this one could stay on the board for a while.
