Well, well, well, if it isn’t Week 2 of the college football season!

I was pleasantly surprised by the fervor and ferocity of the fans in the stadium for Akron, especially with a new head coach and a terrible opponent. Based on what we saw last Saturday night, it appears as though many of the rumblings that we heard over the past couple of months in terms of dissatisfaction with how things were going in recruiting or COVID attack plans may have just been news fodder. The fans certainly didn’t care, and they showed up in droves, with the student section staying full until the end. That’s wild.

I don’t expect that this Saturday will have the same effect with Alabama State coming to town. The Hornets are one of the absolute worst teams in FCS, as they were taken to overtime by Miles College (and only won on a missed extra point). If the students don’t stick around until the bitter end, I won’t hold it against them, but it would certainly be a nice show of solidarity ahead of Penn State.

There’s not much great football this weekend, so there’s really only the postgame party to get to where you can celebrate being 2-0. If you find the College and Mag crew, maybe they’ll give you a free cold Kewrs.
