Auburn got a great performance from Dillon Ortman on the mound, and the Tigers shutout Texas A&M, 4-0, in the first SEC game of the year Friday night at Plainsman Park. It's the sixth win in a row for Sunny Golloway's team.

Ortman (4-1) has been good this year, but against the Aggies, he was at his absolute best. He went the distance, throwing 116 pitches and allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out three. The only time A&M really threatened was in the ninth, but he worked around a single and hit batter to start the inning. A fielder's choice resulted in the first out, and the game ended on a 6-4-3 double play.

Auburn (12-6, 1-0 SEC) took control in the first two innings. After Jordan Ebert singled to lead off the first, a Dan Glevenyak fly out, Damek Tomscha single and Ryan Tella walk loaded the bases with one away. Blake Austin drove in Ebert with a sac fly, and Daniel Robert singled to left, scoring Tomscha and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. With the bases loaded again in the second, Tomscha reached on an error, and Damon Haecker crossed home plate to make it 3-0.

The score remained unchanged until Auburn added an insurance run in the eighth. Keegan Thompson led off the inning with an infield single, and Jackson Burgreen and Haecker each grounded out to the right side, advancing Thompson to third. Andrew Vinson came on in relief of starter Daniel Mengden and uncorked a wild pitch on his first delivery, allowing Thompson to score.

Ebert and Tomscha, who have been red hot lately, once again led Auburn at the plate. Ebert was 3-for-5 with a run scored, and Tomscha was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Glevenyak, Robert and Tompson were each 1-for-4.

Mengden (2-3) took the loss for A&M (13-6, 0-1). He went 7 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks, and he struck out four. Vinson struck out the only hitter he faced.

Auburn and A&M will finish up their series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for Game 1 is set for noon CT.
