Phil Steele, the college football analyst whose annual season previews are among fans' and pundits' most prized possessions, released his All-SEC teams Tuesday. Five Auburn Tigers made the list.
Leading the way for Auburn was running back Tre Mason, who was a second-team selection. Mason, a junior, finished eighth in the SEC with 1,002 yards last season, and he was pretty much the only bright spot in the Tigers' nightmarish campaign. Steele also named kicker Cody Parkey to the second team. Parkey was 11-of-14 on field goals in 2012 and a perfect 27-of-27 on extra points.
Two more offensive players made the grade, as C.J. Uzomah was named third-team tight end and Reese Dismukes was tabbed fourth-team center. Demetruce McNeal was Auburn's only defensive player on the preseason list, finding a slot at fourth-team safety. McNeal wasn't on Gus Malzahn's post-spring depth chart after dealing with some personal issues during the spring, but he's back with the team and should make an impact this fall.
Alabama had the most players selected -- shocker there -- with 16 on the all-conference squads, including eight first-team picks. Georgia, the Crimson Tide's opponent in last year's SEC Championship Game, tied for second with 12 players honored. Florida also placed 12 on the preseason teams.
Perhaps a bit surprising, Ole Miss was right behind the Bulldogs and Gators with 11 selections. Don't sleep on the Rebels in 2013.
