Broadrious Hamm will join Auburn as an immediate contender in the "best name" club. The Composite 3* Offensive Tackle from Griffin, GA (Spalding High) was originally a Tennessee Volunteer commit, but changed his mind two months later and switched his pledge to the Tigers in mid June. He was caught off guard when J.B. Grimes departed, but has apparently hit it off with new OL coach Herb Hand in recent weeks.
Hamm is 6'5, 320, so he's got great size for a tackle. He spent the whole cycle as Auburn's lone offensive lineman commitment leading into signing day. Auburn signed an impressive OL class last year plus added a transfer from Texas, so Offensive Line wasn't a position of extreme need. Hamm was a key target early on and Auburn worked hard to make sure he stayed a part of the class. When he first committed I speculated that Auburn would sign a number of offensive linemen in this class. I guess I was a bit off in my assessment.
As I said back in June, I don't know a lot of what to look for in an offensive lineman, but I do love the way Hamm tosses people around in high highlights.
Unless they're a very rare specimen, offensive linemen are almost always bound for a redshirt season. I don't anticipate things being different for Hamm in 2016. He'll have to fight into the lineup in 2017, but I'm pretty sure it'll be 2018 before we see significant contributions from him.
Regardless, it's nice to have a boy from Griffin, GA on the team. My lone fellow Griffinite, Jordan Colbert, transferred from Auburn earlier this year. War Eagle, and welcome Brodarious!
