Auburn landed its third commitment of the 2015 recruiting class in cornerback Tony Bridges, the second player in the class out of Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. Bridges in an impressive athlete on the hoof, standing 6'2 and weighing in at 190 pounds. He has a long wing span and is extremely athletic. This coaching staff has made it clear what kind of player it is looking for in the secondary: long, rangy players who can run. Bridges fits that mold perfectly.
Bridges played last year for Gulf Coast C.C. as a freshman and recorded 28 tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. He will be one of the top cornerbacks among JUCO, if not the best, when the rankings are released. As you may recall, 2014 signee and early enrollee D'haquille Williams played at Gulf Coast C.C. last year, and head coach Chad Huff thinks Bridges can be the talent on defense that Williams is on offense. Coach Huff had some high praise for the new Auburn commit, per Justin Hokanson at AuburnSports.com.
"I thought they matched up really well. There were times when D'haquille would win and there were times when Tony would win. They measure pretty evenly as far as speed and athleticism. To me, there's only one D'haquille, but Tony is as talented and gifted as he is. I feel like Tony has the chance to be the number one player for his position next year."
Bridges plans to enroll at Auburn in January 2015 and should bring immediate help to the secondary the following season. He is Auburn's fourth commitment out of Gulf Coast C.C. between the '14 and '15 classes. Williams and safety Derrick Moncrief are already enrolled on the Plains. Athlete Jason Smith should join Bridges at Auburn in January 2015.
