Four Star Offensive Tackle Austin Troxell of Madison Academy is very familiar with some of his new teammates at Auburn. Particularly those at running back like Kerryon Johnson and Malik Miller. He’s blocked for them before in high school.
The Tigers getting Troxell was a bit of a surprise back when he committed back in June. Until that point, he was 50/50 between the Tigers and the Tide, as we noted in his original commitment article. The Tigers need depth at the offensive tackle position, and they’ve done well in this class.
Troxell, at 6’7, 335 lbs, has the body you dream of for an offensive tackle. The only downside is that he’s had injury issues with ACL surgeries on each knee that have caused him to miss a lot of playing time in high school. If you want to know how talented he is, though, just remember that he hasn’t been able to do much to be evaluated in over a year and he’s still rated a 4*.
Auburn needs tackles and they need depth at the position. However, given his injury history, I’m betting he redshirts during the 2017 season. He’ll definitely be in line for playing time in the next few years, though.
Welcome to the class, Austin. You have a great first name, and we’re glad you chose the Tigers! War Eagle!
