Traivon Leonard spent much of the recruiting cycle committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. On December 12th, he flipped from the Tar Heels to the Tigers. Now, he’s officially on board.
It couldn’t have been easy for Leonard, who originally committed to Wesley McGriff as his position coach. McGriff left a few weeks later and Greg Brown came in. Even with that, Leonard maintained his pledge to the good guys.
Auburn really wanted Leonard, staying after him long after his North Carolina commitment, which paid off in the end. See what we had to say about him back when he committed, here.
Leonard has a lot of players in front of him at the cornerback position. It would not surprise me to see him redshirt for the 2017 season. There were a few defensive backs who redshirted last year, after all.
Welcome to the Plains, Traivon. You stuck with the school instead of the position coach, and that means a lot. I’m sure you’ll find you’ve made the right decision. War Eagle!
