John Samuel Shenker has only been committed to Auburn since Sunday afternoon. He was offered by Auburn’s new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey shortly after his hiring. Here’s what we had to say about him just the other day. He didn’t have a ton of big-time offers. His only other P5 offer was Wake Forrest.
However, Lindsey loves a versatile tight end who can block like an H-back and lineman and also be an effective pass-catcher. That's something Shenker can do, and so Auburn - who desperately needs tight ends - offered him late and became the easy choice for the player from Moultrie, GA.
Will he play next year? I’d say there’s a very good chance of it. Auburn only has two other tight ends - and only one of those played at all last season for Auburn. He could redshirt if those two turn out to be everything Auburn needs, but I could see Shenker getting his chances to prove that he belongs on the field more.
Welcome to Auburn, John Samuel! We’re glad you’re here. War Eagle!
