For those Tigers who didn't get drafted, where will they end up?

Every year, there are players who go undrafted who hoped to hear their names called as one of the many in the NFL Draft. For many of them, as soon as the Draft ends their phone starts ringing with calls from NFL teams who want to offer them an Undrafted Free Agent spot.

There have been plenty of Tigers who have done very well with those spots in recent years. A number of Tigers - like Chris Davis, Brandon King, Trovon Reed, and many others - have found their way onto active rosters and contributed to their teams in a big way through this route.

This year is sure to be no exception. While Carl Lawson, Montravius Adams, Rudy Ford, and Josh Holsey all heard their names called over Draft Weekend, there were others who didn't. Some were due to injury concerns. Some were due to there just not being enough picks in the Draft.

We'll update this post as we get more information on where each one of them signs. We'll also link back to articles or FanShots written about them as they get published as well.

Of all the players drafted, I think I'm most excited about this one.

I still remember the moment I watched a Josh Holsey play and said: "that kid is going to be something special." It was early in the 2012 LSU game when he had a terrific pass breakup on a deep ball. Little did I know the ups-and-downs his career would go through from there.

Holsey was a stand-out early in 2013 in Auburn's secondary before suffering a knee injury in practice just prior to that year's Texas A&M game. He came back from that in 2014 and had a pretty decent year. Then, in 2015, he suffered yet another knee injury early in Game 2 against Jacksonville State. He came back from that and had a pretty good year in 2016.

With his knee injury history, there were questions about his health. He wasn't invited to the Combine. I don't think anyone really expected him to be called in this year's NFL Draft. It surely wasn't due to his ability. Holsey had some game-saving interceptions for the Tigers this year and has been a great DB when healthy.

So, it is with great pleasure that we get to say he was chosen today in the 7th round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.

War Eagle, Josh! We're so happy for you. You've overcome so much and worked so hard to be here. We know you'll do yourself and the Auburn Family proud at the next level!

Arizona gets a versatile - and fast - playmaker in the 6th round.

Johnathan "Rudy" Ford came to Auburn as a running back. He was converted to defensive back prior to his freshman 2013 season and flourished there for the rest of his career. He led the Tigers in tackles during his sophomore and junior seasons. If he hadn't lost time in 2016 due to injury, he likely would have been at or near the top again in his final season.

Now, he's officially a Cardinal as he was chosen with the 208th pick in Round 6.

The Cardinals are getting one of the most versatile players in football. He can play Safety or Nickel. He can return kicks.
He rushes the passer well on Safety blitzes. He can even run the football on offense if you need him to.

Rudy is a smart football player and is also an all-around great guy. On a personal note, when I was still at Auburn as an ROTC instructor, Rudy came down with a couple of other players (Byron Cowart and Daniel Carlson in particular) and played a big game of tug-of-war with our Cadets at our end-of-year event. All of the players came down and shook the Cadets' hands, but those three in particular stuck around and hung out with everyone for a while.

He'll make a great addition as a player and as a person to the Cardinals roster.

Good luck, Rudy! War Eagle!

Everyone’s favorite sack master, Carl Lawson, was drafted by the Bengals with the 9th pick in the fourth round.

Despite being a first round talent, as agreed upon by pretty much everyone, Lawson slipped a lot due to concerns about his injury history. I guess. I don’t know why he fell this far. It’s not clear yet if he’ll be a true defensive end, or if he’ll end up as more of a rush linebacker, but I have no doubt Lawson will be terrorizing NFL quarterbacks for years to come.

Lawson left Auburn after four seasons, but injuries prevented him from really seeing the field in 2014 and 2015. I was at the 2015 opener against Louisville, and it was a treat in the first half watching him just terrorize the Louisville offense. Once he got hurt, the entire defense looked different. It takes a special talent (and leader) to be able to elevate a defense so much just by being on the field, and he was a big part of why the Auburn defense played so well in 2016, recording 9.5 sacks and 14 TFL.

Most importantly, though, Lawson was a BIG part of the 2013 story as a true freshman. Let’s take a look at these gems...

Monty Adams is a Green Bay Packer

Montravius Adams arrived at Auburn as one of Gus Malzahn's first recruits and one of Rodney Garner's first big signees on the Plains. Now, four years later, he's headed to the NFL. He was chosen tonight in Round 3 by the Green Bay Packers.

Adams showed so much potential as a freshman, plugging lanes and affecting plays. His stat lines weren't very impressive, but it was obvious from the start that he had a lot of talent.

His sophomore and junior years continued to show much of the same. A lot of talent, but the effort just wasn't where it needed to be. Then, 2016 arrived. In his senior season, Adams finished second on the team in QB hurries, sacks, and tackles for loss. The person he finished 2nd to in all of those categories? That would be Carl Lawson.

Adams can do it all as an interior lineman. He can bull-rush the line and break up a handoff at the mesh point. He can sack the QBs. He can stop the running back at the LOS or just behind it. Shoot, he can even intercept passes and run them back. If he keeps building on the progress he made this year, then he'll have a heck of a career in the NFL.

Good luck, Monty. We'll miss you and be pulling for you in Green Bay.

The annual NFL Extravaganza is upon us. When will the first Tiger go? Here's how you can watch!

Do you like watching broadcasters talk for a few hours and pontificate on the possible future of 20-22+ year old former college kids? Well, tonight is your night! Former NFL players and pundits will discuss the merits of each choice in more detail than you can possibly stomach and they'll do it over the course of three nights!

If you're like me, though, you only want to know when former Auburn players get drafted. That's why I'm thankful for things like Twitter. I can follow along and see if an Auburn player is drafted and then fill in and post our draft profiles of said players without having to actually watch it all. I know I'm not going to watch Saturday's rounds. There are Weiner Dog races in Buda, TX just up the road from me in San Antonio and there's no way I'm missing that hilarity.

If you do want to watch it, though, here's the information you need. You can watch it on multiple channels, but I'd recommend NFL Network over ESPN just on general principle. Of course, NFL Network is crazy enough that they're even doing a Red Carpet for this shindig. It's all a bit nuts.

Who Gets Drafted?

So, when will Auburn's players get drafted? Well, it's looking more and more like Carl Lawson will drop to the 2nd round or so. Monty Adams may be around that timeframe, too. So, I doubt an Auburn player gets drafted tonight. It could still happen, though.

Of the Tigers' draft-eligible players, I'm still going with Carl, Monty, and Rudy Ford getting drafted. Robert Leff MAY get drafted, too, in a late round. If not, I don't think he'll have a trouble finding a team to pick him up as an undrafted free agent, though. The same goes with Josh Holsey. Holsey will get a chance, but no one is going to draft him because of his injury history.

We'll find out very soon, though!
