                                          Sheniqua Ferguson

Auburn Sprinter Sheniqua Ferguson has been named the 2010 Alabama Female Athlete of the Year by the United States Sports Academy. Ferguson is a senior and a native of Nassau, Bahamas.

The award is given to an athlete that is participating in sports in Alabama or was born in Alabama and has participated in sports anywhere in America beyond the high school level.

In 2010 Sheniqua was named the SEC Outdoor Female Runner of the Year and earned the SEC Commissioner's Trophy as the high female point scorer at the SEC Outdoor Championships. She has won five All-American honors, won one individual national championship and four SEC titles.  And because of her success, Auburn improved from 41st at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships to sixth in 2010,

Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said, "Sheniqua has had a tremendous career up to this point, and we're excited about her senior year. This is my first female student-athlete to have won this award during my years here, and she was selected over some other very talented athletes from all over the country that are eligible for the award. It's always nice to see somebody that works as hard as Sheniqua does - both on the track and in the classroom - be recognized for her accomplishments. We're excited about this award."

The Auburn family is also excited about the award. Congratulations Sheniqua and War Eagle.
