College Football Playoff Rankings: 5th Edition

The latest rankings are out.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn remains the highest ranked three loss team in the nation at #15, down one spot from last week's #14. The Tigers will face #1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday with a trip to Atlanta possibly on the line for the Tide. If Mississippi State loses the Egg Bowl, then the Tide will have a trip to Atlanta locked up regardless of the outcome of the Iron Bowl.

It has been pointed out that the last time Alabama beat an Auburn team that was ranked was back in 2001. Nick Saban has never defeated an Auburn team that finished the season with nine or more wins. Auburn currently sits at 8-3. A victory in the Iron Bowl for Auburn on Saturday would see that stat continue. A loss would not guarantee that it continues though, as the Tigers still have a bowl game to play in.

There's a lot riding on this Iron Bowl. For Alabama it's a shot to avenge last season and head toward a date with the college football playoff. For Auburn it's a chance to prove that they're still an excellent team, spoil the dreams of the Tide, and ride a wave of momentum into bowl season and the off season.
