2 Days to Tip-Off - Chris Denson

Anytime we look back at a win over Alabama, it’s a good thing.

AL.com

Today is the 49th article in the 50 Day Countdown and yet it is the first time that I personally have written about an Auburn Basketball game against Alabama this entire time.

Total Points: 32

Date: January 30, 2014

Opponent: Alabama

Final Score: Auburn 74 Alabama 55

So Chris Denson and K.T. Harrell would have tied Alabama on this night. The two combined for 55 points with Harrell adding 23 to Denson’s career night of 32 points.

Denson was 10-16, 1-2 from 3 and 11-14 from the free throw line and also had 7 rebounds in the game. Denson got the Tigers off to a good start making a pair of shots in the game’s first 2 minutes. The first was a floater after getting his own offensive rebound, the 2nd came on a fastbreak layup with an assist from Harrell. Two minutes later, Denson made another layup, this time of the reverse variety to put the Tigers up 9-0 and then Harrell’s 3-point capped off a 12-0 start for Auburn 4:45 into the game. That was all of Denson’s scoring in the first half. Auburn led 30-22 at halftime.

The 2nd half was the Chris Denson Show. He started Auburn’s 2nd half scoring with a free throw. With the Tide pulling within 5 points, Denson made his only 3-pointer of the game 2:16 into half to give Auburn a 36-28 lead. After a layup from KT, Denson would score the next 8 points for Auburn. Denson would make layups on consecutive possessions and then made 4 free throws which allowed Auburn to build a 46-33 lead with 13:40 left.

Denson’s next basket came with 9:25 left, a jumper which put Auburn up 55-41. Auburn was able to maintain a 13-16 point lead throughout most of the 2nd half. Denson followed up a missed shot with 7 minutes left to put Auburn up 59-43. The next 4 points for Auburn came from the free throw line courtesy of Denson. Denson capped off his 2nd 8 straight points streak of the night with a jumper with 4:16 left to put Auburn up 65-50. Denson would get to 30 points with a jumper with 2:49 left and capped off the scoring for Auburn making a pair of free throws to provide the game’s final margin. It was Auburn’s 1st SEC win of the season. Denson had 26 of his 32 points in the 2nd half.

Tomorrow, we wrap up the countdown with one final look at a game from last season.
