How’s this for a pre Iron Bow/post Thanksgiving boom?
One of Auburn’s top targets of the 2019 cycle, 4* DE Zykeivous Walker, elected to end his recruitment this evening, announcing his pledge to the Tigers.
Talk about shocker. For pretty much all of his recruitment Walker has been considered a lock to the Georgia Bulldogs. Auburn always thought they were in the hunt but the belief by many in the industry was that no one would be able to overcome in the instate Bulldogs.
Never doubt Rodney Garner.
For the 2nd time in two months, Garner has snatched a blue chip lineman long thought to be a lock to the instate SEC program. Just an absolutely insane job of closing from the SEC’s best closer.
Walker is a long, explosive athlete who consistently causes havoc in the backfield. He’s been a problem for offenses all year in 2019 racking up almost 30 tackles for loss and over 10 sacks so far this year. He’s got the bend and quickness to possible develop into an above average pass rusher from the Buck position while also possessing the frame and lower body strength to develop into an edge setting strong side end. My guess is like Big Kat Bryant, Walker will spend time at both position for the Tigers during his career.
Walker’s pledge gives Auburn 21 commits in this class and leaves them with not many needs left to fill. Defensive line was the major concern heading into last month but with Jay Hardy and Zykeivous Walker on board with longtime commit Daniel Foster-Allen, you can’t really say that’s a major need anymore.
Early signing day is just a couple weeks away and Auburn is sitting pretty. With the majority of their class on board and chances high they will land at least one, possibly two more commits before the end of this month, Auburn will likely head into the spring with very few spots left to fill in the 2020 cycle. Walker’s commitment also makes Auburn’s chances of finishing with a top class this year even more likely.
War Eagle Zykeivous!
